Immediately after the devastating earthquake that struck areas in China’s Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008, SSCLF dispatched a team of volunteers to join in the relief and rehabilitation work there. In addition to bringing large amounts of material aids, the Foundation team also gave special attention to the well being of children who had lost their families and friends, providing them with school supplies and books and staging meaningful performances for them. More significantly, the team also set up several permanent “Soong Ching Ling Charitable Bookstacks” in the rehabilitation areas.
