First “Firefly Paradise” School Building Completed

The first multilevel “Firefly Paradise” building for the Jianchang Hope School in Lixin county of Anhui province was completed and inaugurated on December 27, 2011. Funding for the project was donated by the “Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation - Bank of East Asia” Public Fund (SSCLF-BEA).
The Jianchang Hope School for grades 1st through 9th was first established over 60 years ago. As more villages became integrated into townships and school districts expanded, the School’s enrollment has now exceeded 700 and is still growing. The original 12 classrooms were no longer adequate. The project of a new school building began in July 2010, with SSCLF-BEA Public Fund donating RMB 300,000 yuan and additional funding provided by the local county government. The new three-story building with a floor space of 1,258 square meters consists of classrooms and activities rooms. The school’s “Firefly Paradise” multi-media classroom, donated earlier by the Fund, will also move into the new building.
