2013-04-29
A specific symbol of the people’s friendship between China and South Africa was the cornerstone–laying ceremony of the SSCLF-funded “China House” at Baphumelele Orphanage in Cape Town, South Africa, on March 20, 2013. “China House” was first made possible when the “Shanghai Painting and Calligraphy Artists Charity Auction”, held by SSCLF on February 23, raised one million yuan with 36 pieces of art works designated to the homeless children of Africa.
At the cornerstone-laying ceremony, Consul General Liang Shugen of the PRC Consulate General in Cape Town congratulated all those concerned with the success of the ceremony and expressed his appreciation to SSCLF and Shanghai painter Wang Xiaofang for their invaluable support. Also present at the ceremony were Freddie Adams, Chairman of the African National Congress’ Economic and Development Affairs Council; Jie Jie, South African ANC Party Secretary of Cape Town; as well as Cape Town city councilors, community workers and a number of Cape Town overseas Chinese representatives.
