"SSCLF- Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital’s Special Fund for Deafness and Rare Diseases" is established

On June 21, 2019, the launching ceremony of “SSCLF- Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital’s Special Fund for Deafness and Rare Diseases” was held in the old house of Soong’s Family.

 

The special fund is initiated by Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to the Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

 

At the launching ceremony, professor Huang Zhiwu, director of the hearing center of the hospital, introduced the Fund's "original intention" -- there are about 1.17 million deaf children in China, among whom more than 800,000 are under the age of seven. About 1‰ ~ 3‰ of neonatus are born with hearing impairment every year. At the same time, elderly people’s hearing loss has become a common social problem.  In addition, neurofibromatosis is a rare autosomal dominant disease that costs a lot of money to treat and can cause lifelong pain if not properly and promptly treated. They desperately need help from the community and public welfare organizations.  "SSCLF- Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital Special Fund for deafness and rare diseases" came into being under this background, dedicated to carrying out public assistance projects for deafness and rare diseases in the ear department.  

 

The project initial investment of RMB 1 million yuan, jointly donated by the staff of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, social organizations and individuals. Among them, Shanghai Pharmaceutical Holding Co., Ltd. is the main donor, with an initial investment of RMB 800,000 yuan into the fund. In the following years, the sponsor will donate no less than RMB 1 million to the SSCLF through social fundraising.

 

The raised fund will be used mainly for the following public welfare projects: Helping deaf and rare disease patients who cannot receive proper treatment due to family poverty; Funding scientific research, personnel training and talent development in the field of diagnosis and treatment of deafness and rare diseases; And carrying out popular science publicity activities for diseases, such as publishing popular science books and holding popular science lectures, etc.

 

Ms. Zou Wei, SSCLF’s executive vice chairman, delivered a speech. She expressed her sincere gratitude for the generous support of the donors and the loving dedication of the initiator, and hoped that the three parties could cooperate sincerely, integrate the forces from all walks of life, and jointly promote the public welfare cause cared and concerned about by Madam Soong Ching Ling.

 

Ms. Zou Wei, SSCLF’s executive vice chairman, and Mr. Wu Hao, president of the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University signed the special fund cooperation agreement. Ms. Zou Wei presented the donation certificate to Mr. Li Yongzhong, general manager of Shanghai Pharmaceutical Holding Co., LTD.
