2019-06-21

The Global Natural History Day 2019 Global Finals, co-sponsored by SSCLF, is to be held in Shanghai on July 18 to July 24,2019. On June 20, representatives from around China gathered at the Old House of Soong’s Family on North Shaanxi road in Shanghai to hold pre-competition coordination meeting.

Global Natural History Day, initiated by Kenneth Behring, an international famous philanthropist, is a public welfare project open to all students and teachers, regardless of ethnic, gender, religion, physical ability and economic status. The project aims at stimulating the interests of primary and middle school students for the natural science, promoting public welfare science popularization education activities with focus on improving their ability of research, analysis and communication. Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation has participated in the Global Natural History Day Finals for the fourth consecutive year as a co-sponsor — a youth science popularization activity with high reputation in the field of natural science at home and abroad.

The Global Natural History Day Finals 2019 is a large-scale competition, involving nearly 3,000 contestants, tutors and accompanying parents from 15 provinces in China and many countries and regions in the world. The pre-competition coordination meeting lasted two days. More than 30 delegates from more than 20 museums and science and technology museums in Beijing, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Tianjin, Zhejiang, Fujian, Chongqing, Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi and Sichuan discussed the specific schedule, activity contents and matters needing attention of participating teams, and went to Shanghai University, Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Hall, and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and other places for field survey.

SSCLF’s deputy secretary general Yang Ye delivered a welcome speech. He briefly introduced the history of the Old House of Soong’s Family and the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation. He hopes that through our common efforts, more and more people will join the natural science education activities which create space for the future development of children who love natural science.
