Guizhou Anshun Chinese Herbal Medicine Project Director: Ren Yunhu

The 35th SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project was launched in Xixiu District, Anshun, Guizhou. Ping’an volunteers, General Manager Hu Yinghong and Yu Mingjin, together with their team, went into the villages to verify the households’ information. Project director Ren Yunhu led 20 poverty-stricken farmers to plant polygonatum, which nourishes the kidneys and lungs, tonifies the spleen and strengthens Qi. Thanks also go to the local government for their recommendation and support.

Shanghai Qingpu Vegetable Project Director: Chen Junfang

Volunteers: Li Jinhui, Gu Daying

The 34th SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project, also the first in Shanghai, is located in Linjia Village, Qingpu District, Shanghai. Volunteers Mrs. Li Jinhui and Gu Daying conducted a love visit, while project directors Chen Junfang and Zhang Ruijie would lead 10 poverty-stricken farmers to plant green vegetables and build a new modern countryside.

Anhui Jixi Edible Fungi Project Director:Hu Yongzheng, Hu Yonglu

The 33rd SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project was launched in Jixi County, Xuancheng. Ping’an volunteer, General Manager Chen Aiwu, together with the team, carefully investigated and verified the project. Project directors Hu Yongzheng and Hu Yonglu will lead 10 poverty-stricken farmers to grow edible fungi, enabling them to return to their families and embark on a virtuous cycle of prosperity through hard work. Thanks also go to Anhui Agriculture Committee for the recommendation.

Anhui Guangde Rice Project Director: Lu Shiping

Volunteers: Chen Aiwu, Qin Wen

In this quarter, the main tasks of the 10 project households are field drainage, fertilization, plant protection, drought resistance, harvesting and sales of the first crop of ratoon rice. The yield of ratoon rice amounts to 500 kg / mu, with the sales price reaching up to 133 yuan / 50 kg, which is 18 yuan / 50 kg higher than that of last year. In August, the cooperative invited experts from the Municipal Agricultural Technology Service Centre to guide rice planting technology and help project households solve the difficulties encountered in rice planting.

Anhui Huangshan Organic Rice Project Director: Xu Haibo

This quarter, the main task of the 30 project households in Phase 2 is to harvest paddy rice.

Zhengan County Miaotang Zhengxin Bamboo Project Director: Luo Xin
Volunteers: Zhang Jiaqi, Zhao Wanbin, Li Zongshu

Thanks to SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project, fresh bamboo shoots were able to be exported to Shanghai. Project household Lu Wenhao picked bamboo shoots and handed them to the cooperative, which greatly increased his family’s income.

Anhui Anqing Water Bamboo Project Director: Wang Yanhua

The main tasks of the project households are harvest, sale and emasculation of water bamboo. On August 15, the cooperative invited Yu Feifei, researcher of Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Zhu Xianjie, director of vegetable station of Yuexi County Vegetable Office, and Chen Jianxin, director of Seed Station, to train members of 10 project households.

Chongqing Chengkou County Chinese Bee Project Director: Fan Zhongfu

Volunteers: Tu Jingsong, Huang Yangjian, Liu Xiantao

The main work of the project households this quarter is to gather honey. The average amount of honey collected by each household has reached up to 100 kg, with the income of 18,000 yuan. The cooperative organized training programmes for households to take part in relevant training activities on how to take honey and how to keep it after filtering.

The main work of 22 households of phase 2 this quarter is tea tree pruning and tea garden weeding.

Hubei Wuhan Honey Project Director: He Dehua
Volunteers: Zhan Xiaoqing, Zhang Desheng

From July to mid August, 21 project households collected honey of vitex negundo and medlar honey. From mid August to September, bee colony breeding was prepared for overwintering, while some project households carried out bee colony replacement and mite control. On September 15, the cooperative held a small training meeting for 15 people with the theme of precautions for bee breeding in autumn.

Chongqing Xiushan Chinese Bee Project Director: Bai Tianshu

The main work of the project households this quarter is the management of bee breeding and honey gathering. The third quarter is the season of bee breeding and honey harvest. The project households have bred 300 groups of bees with 3 tons of honey harvested, worth more than 450,000 yuan.

Chongqing Xiushan Red Kiwi Project Director: Yang Jing

The main work of this quarter is kiwifruit picking and selling. On September 1, the cooperative conducted kiwi picking, grading and management training for project households.

Anhui Chuzhou Glutinous Rice Project Director: Xuan Youlin

The main work of this quarter is the comprehensive control of “three injurious insects and two plant diseases” in the rupturing period of rice.

On July 25, all the 20 project households participated in the meeting on rice sheath blight control organized by the cooperative.

Guizhou Qiannan Apple Peach Project Director: Dai Jun

In this quarter, project households are mainly engaged in fruit tree pest and disease control and topdressing. On July 28, the cooperative organized 20 households of the second phase to visit and learn the mode of excellent orchards of the first phase, and gathered in the cooperative to learn the grading, packaging and transportation of fruits.

Guizhou Qiannan Edible Fungi Project Director: Chen Jinbang

The main work of the project households this quarter is the daily management of Edible Fungi collection and inoculation. The cooperative and the Edible Fungi Institute of Lishui Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences have established cooperation on Industry-Academia-Research. Director Ying Guohua, expert enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, has visited the base three times a year.

Guangxi Hechi Silkworm and Dragon Fruit Project Director: Huang Ruibiao  

Volunteer: Zhu Jiangming   

The main work of the project households this quarter is to prune dragon fruit branches. Altogether 4 batches of fruit have been harvested, with a total of over 140,000 kg. The fruit sells well with the average price of 7 yuan / kg.

Shandong Weifang Hawthorn Project Director: Ma Yongcheng

In this quarter, the project households have carried out various works on hawthorn, including fruit thinning, pest control, fertilization and irrigation. Hawthorn trees of some of the project households have matured and entered the picking period.

Southeast Guizhou Uncaria Rhynchophylla Project Director: Wu Zengxian

Based on the success of the first phase of the baton project, the preparation of the second phase is now in progress. In this quarter, the main work of 10 project households is Uncaria Rhynchophylla pinching. On September 10, the project households were organized to participate in the training of Chinese herbal medicine planting technology.

Jiangxi Xinyu Kirin Watermelon Project Director: Chen Xiaohong

The main work of project households this quarter is watermelon seedling transplanting, seedling care, pruning and pollination.

Hubei Wuhan Artemisia Project Director: Zhou Houbing

The main work for the project households this quarter is fall Artemisia Selengensis cuttage and growth management. In August, the cooperative organized training on Artemisia Selengensis pest control for project households.

Sichuan Jintang Organic Vegetable Project Director: Chen Xiaohui

Volunteers: Wang Zhenfang, Li Ping

In this quarter, the main work of the project households is to plant and sell summer vegetables such as soybeans and tomatoes. The price of main varieties of soybeans is 2.8-3.6 yuan / kg.
