On the morning of October 16, 2020, Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation organized the “party building promoting working team building” activity, with all the staff coming to the Shanghai Library and visiting the “No Regret in His Life for China – George Hatem and his revolutionary mentor Soong Ching Ling” Historic Relics and Photo Exhibition.
The historic relics and photo exhibition is guided by Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Research Institute and Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, organized by Shanghai Administrative Committee for the Historic Relics of Sun Yat-sen & Soong Ching Ling, and undertaken by Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence in Shanghai.
George Hatem (1910-1988), a very important international friend of Soong Ching Ling, graduated from University of Geneva with his doctorate in medicine in 1933. He then came to China and met Soong Ching Ling in Shanghai in 1934, marking the beginning of his journey on Chinese revolution. Over the next five decades, George Hatem always respected Soong Ching Ling as his revolutionary mentor and guide. After the founding of People’s Republic of China (PRC), George Hatem served as an advisor to the Ministry of Health, making outstanding contributions to the public health of PRC.
The exhibition selected pictures, cultural relics, documents and historical images related to Soong Ching Ling and George Hatem, with more than 300 pictures and historical materials, and more than 40 physical exhibits showcased. Telling the touching stories of George Hatem’s lifelong fight for the cause of Chinese revolution, construction and reform under the influence of his revolutionary mentor Soong Ching Ling, the exhibition reflects their sincere friendship lasting for half a century, based on their common faith, belief, confidence and affection.
After visiting the exhibition, SSCLF’s party branch wrote down their feelings on the guestbook, paying sincere tribute to the revolutionary ancestors. The staff said that working in the foundation named after Soong Ching Ling, their mission in the new era is to carry on and promote Soong Ching Ling’s thought and spirit on public welfare, having Soong’s loving causes benefit more people.
