20 Miao households in Huangping County, Southeast Guizhou, exhilarated to take over the baton from the households of the first phase, started their journey of the second phase of SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project. Ping’an volunteer, General Manager Dai Guangyue and Shen Yangfan, together with their team, made several in-depth investigations on the project. Project director Hou Zhenghong will lead the households to centralize, scale and standardize chicken farming. Sincere appreciation also goes to the government for their support. Southeast Guizhou Uncaria Rhynchophylla Project Director: Wu Zengxian

The second phase of SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project was launched in Liping County, Southeast Guizhou this quarter. Ping’an volunteer, General Manager Dai Guangyue and Shen Yangfan, together with their team, investigated the project. 10 Dong households, led by project director Wu Zengxian, will begin to cultivate Uncaria Rhynchophylla. Heartfelt thanks also go to the government for their support, and wish the farmers a higher income and a happy life!

Anhui Anqing Green Tea Project Director: Wang Linmiao

The second phase of SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project was launched in Yuexi County, Anqing, Anhui Province this quarter. Ping’an volunteer Xie Jijun took over the baton from General Manager Wang Peng, and General Manager Ye Fei investigated the project in depth many times. Project director Wang Linmiao will lead 16 poverty-stricken households to plant Yuexi Cui Lan (a type of green tea). Sincere gratitude also goes to the local agricultural committee. May the income of households be improved, and we hope that the elderly and children left behind will no longer be lonely.

In this quarter, the 10 project households mainly worked on rice harvesting and sales, and farmland maintenance. On October 25, the cooperative organized a cultural experience activity of rice harvesting, with about 300 people participating in.

The 10 project households entered the management stage this quarter, including a series of technical operations – pile turning, impurity detection, shed building, field arranging, bag taking-off, water spraying to keep moisture, and collecting mushrooms.

Anhui Guangde Rice Project Director: Lu Shiping

In this quarter, the main tasks of the 10 project households are rice harvesting, as well as planting of oilseed rape and wheat. The yield of quality rice amounts to about 550 kg / mu, with the sales price reaching up to 135 yuan / 50 kg, which is 11 yuan / 50 kg higher than that of last year. In October, the cooperative organized the purchase and selection of high-quality rapeseed and wheat for the project households, and invited experts from the Bureau of Agricultural Technology to provide technical guidance on the planting of rapeseed and wheat.

The main tasks of the project households are harvest, sale and emasculation of water bamboo. On December 9, the cooperative invited Professor Zhang Qi’an and Researcher Yu Feifei from the vegetable department of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Director Chu Haifeng from the Vegetable Office of Yuexi County, to the base to give seedling training for 10 project households.

The main tasks of the 21 project households this quarter are to control mites in winter (none brood time), replace old equipment and prepare food for overwintering bees. On November 7, the cooperative held a training session on “National Beekeeping Technology System” in Changxuanling Street, Huangpi District. The training covered details in bee prevention, mite treatment, bee breeding and the use of bee medicines, among others.

In this quarter, project households are mainly engaged in fruit tree winter pruning and topdressing. The main work of the project households this quarter is the daily management of Edible Fungi collection and inoculation. The cooperative and the Edible Fungi Institute of Lishui Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences have established cooperation on Industry-Academia-Research. Director Ying Guohua, expert enjoying the special allowance of the State Council, has visited the base three times a year. Through the demonstration planting of project households, 23 cooperatives have been guided and driven to plant mushroom.

In October, the hawthorn was ripe, and the project households picked and stored the hawthorn in the cold storage of cooperative director Ma. From November to December, some project households worked in the cooperative after harvesting their hawthorn, helping to pick fruit and load and unload goods in the cold storage.

In this quarter, the main work of the project households is to plant and sell winter vegetables such as cauliflower and asparagus lettuce. Vegetable prices remain stable, with the price of main varieties of cauliflower reaching 2.4-3.6 yuan / kg.
