On July 19, 2021, Jiang Liang, SSCLF’s Chairman, visited the Shanghai Chuanfang Agricultural Cooperative in Qingpu, Shanghai, also the project site of the Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project.
Established in 2013, the SSCLF Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project, with the charity concept of “teaching people to fish rather than giving them fish”, aims to help farmers overcome poverty while restoring the integrity of the family and alleviating the social problems of children left behind in rural areas. As of the end of 2020, the Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project has set up 35 project sites across China, with a total of 49 projects. The Shanghai Chuanfang Agricultural Cooperative is the first project site in Shanghai for the Farmer Entrepreneurship Baton Project. The cooperative, located in Linjia Village, Zhujiajiao Town, was initiated by Chen Junfang and Zhang Ruijie, covering an area of 370 mu of land, mainly engaged in rice cultivation and partly used for vegetable and fruit cultivation. There are currently over 10 farmers in the cooperative, with an annual production of 150,000-200,000 tons of rice and annual sales of about RMB 1-1.5 million yuan through the micro-commerce self-operated sales plus e-commerce platform cooperative sales model. In July 2020, the cooperative signed a three-year cooperation agreement with SSCLF Special Fund, receiving a total of RMB 500,000 yuan in relay grants to help 10 farming families with financial and material security, hoping to increase their income through agricultural farming.
Mr Jiang Liang had a cordial talk with the project farmers about the promising changes brought about by their participation in the project, and presented two of the eligible farmers with bursaries for the students enrolled in university, and afterwards he visited the project site. Wu Yuehan, Director of SSCLF, and Liu Min, the initiator of SSCLF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Relay Baton Project, accompanied the visit.
