The launch ceremony of the “Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation Retaining Good Teachers for Mountainous Areas” public welfare project was held on July 15, 2021 at SSCLF. Zhang Ming, SSCLF’s Secretary General, Li Haomin, Chairman of Jiangsu Win-top Education Group, and Mei Hongyun, Director of the Management Committee of SSCLF New Era Culture Special Fund were present.

For rural education, the hardest thing is to keep the volunteer teachers. At present, there are more than 16 million teachers of all kinds in China, of which only 2 million are rural teachers, while 2/3 of the country’s primary school students are in the countryside, with an extremely incongruous teacher-student ratio and still a large shortage of teachers. The aim of the “Retaining Good Teachers for Mountainous Areas” public welfare project is to motivate the volunteer teaching team by increasing the monthly living allowance for teachers and headmasters, so that more and more volunteer teachers willing to fight on the front line will stay and accompany all children in the long term, contributing social benefits to the development of the schools and the mountainous areas where they are located.
